For this task I had to use mixed media techniques to see if I could create any art that could be used for my final project, below is a overview of the media I created.
In this image I want to showcase the technique of squashing a brush on the page at a sideways angle to create the leaves of a tree, I also wanted to show how the colours blended with the tree so it slowly transforms from the tree colour to the colour of the leaves.
This image is to showcase me using an oil pastel for the outlining and using water colours to colour the tree in, it allows me to create hand drawn art and use materials such as brushes and water colours to fill in the detail later.
This is an image of some colours that had been blotted onto water that had been covering the paper, it shows me that the colours blend naturally and don't create a weird distortion of one colour being more dominant in certain areas than another colour.
This was created by using water to brush the page and then slowly merging the two water colours together using a brush, I wanted the paper to become rough so pieces of paper would come off and give a moss/algae type look to the image.
This was created using tissue paper that was stuck down and scrunched up, as you can see it helps to give a dead branch effect in some areas. It also creates a muddy type look as though the ground had been tramped on by a creature during the rain.
This was created using masking tape and brown acrylic paint. As you can see it gives off a bark like texture that I could use for a tree.
This was created using the same method as the previous image, except I created this to see if it could work for the scales of a monster thus why the tape is spread out more. In my opinion it could work but there would need to be more of a pattern happening between the pieces of tape.
I tested different brush strokes and techniques in this image to see what would and wouldn't work, as you can see I tried to use cross hatching at the top of the image, this could be used to a smeared mud texture or a form of bark. below that I experimented with just brushing the paper in straight lines or wavy lines, pressing down on the brush either gently or hard. Using a light press and wavy technique I could use a different colour of acrylic paint and create vines. The other techniques I found were quite useless or I couldn't use for my piece of work.
This piece of work was created by spreading green acrylic paint onto the paper and then getting some red and flicking the brush at the paper. I could use this technique to create grass with different patterns of small flowers, changing up the colours to include yellow and violet to make it look as though there is a variety of plants.
This piece of paper shows a technique that I used by pressing down the paint brush hard onto the page, as you can see it creates a plant type effect, to get the best results I swapped around the colours to see what would work best and found the murky green to look more plant life then the rest.
This page shows a technique using a sponge and red acrylic paint, I dipped the paint in the sponge and proceeded to spin the sponge around on the piece of paper. My goal was to try and create a pattern that looked similar to the rafflesia plant that I could use on a plant within my forrest.
This technique was done by spreading paint onto a piece of paper using a paint brush and then using a sponge to dab into the wet paint, this removed some paint and gave some of it a varied texture that could be used for moss.
This was created using blue water coulour and blue pastel chalk, to try and get a day time sky I used both of these materials to try and get a varied look with different shades of blue that would match a sky.
This was done by getting a sponge and some grey acrylic paint, I dabbed the sponge lightly into the paint and dotted it on the paper, my initial goal was to create a gravel like texture that could be used for a path. In my opinion it could be used to make gravel but the colour needs to be more varied in areas.
This was created by getting black and blue acrylic paint, firstly I squirted the black paint onto a piece of paper followed by some blue paint on top, after getting a second sheet of paper I proceeded to place it on top of the other and pressed down. I then removed the paper and using the end of a paint brush scratched into the paint. This could be used to create a night sky, it allows for different paint to seep into one another and offers a multitude of blended colours. The scratching was a test to see if I could create a bramble bush with no leaves.
This was created by spreading mixed colours of blue, black and purple onto the page. After letting it dry I got white and yellow paint and proceeded to flick the colours onto the piece of paper, this gave a different sky in my opinion as it is more of a natural sky with stars being seen.
